Why does Miah not go straight to the train after dropping Ellie off at her home for the very last time?

Miah is too excited and giddy about Ellie and meeting her parents that he goes for a walk in Central Park instead of going straight home on the train. Sadly, he gets wrapped up in his thoughts and ends up running in Central Park.
