The stories collected in If I Had Two Wings are written from both the third person and first person points of view. "When We All Get to Heaven," is written from a close third person perspective following Ed Phelps' consciousness. A close third person narrator also guides Cicero's story in "I Thought I Heard the Shuffle of Angels' Feet." An unnamed first person narrator guides the narrative of "The Eternal Glory That Is Ham Hocks." "Ezekiel Saw the Wheel" is a third person narrative following Gloria's story. "Mamiwata" is told from the third person perspective, and follows 14-year-old Amanda's tale. Randall narrates "Resurrection Hardware or, Lard & Promises," from the first person point of view. "The Acts of Velmajean Swearington Hoyt and the New City of God," is another third person narrative that traces Velmajean's story. "Now Why Come That Is?" is told by a third person narrator who lives closest to Percy's consciousness. "God's Gonna Trouble the Water or, Where Is Marisol?", is also written from the third person and tells the elderly Mrs. Streeter's story.
