In Section One, Tish says, "Being in trouble can have a funny effect on the mind" (7). What does she mean by this?

Tish describes it as being in a fog. She says some days you go about your work, you talk to people, you complete your day to day activities, and you can not really remember doing any of those things. She also says that you see people differently. She says maybe it is because you realize that other people are in trouble too or maybe it is because you feel so alone in your trouble.
