In Section One, how does Tish know that Fonny's mother and sister's do not like her?

For starters, Tish hardly ever goes to Fonny's house, but Fonny is always at Tish's home. Fonny's mother and sister's do not think that Tish is good enough for them because she has dark skin and is plain looking while Mrs. Hunt and her daughters have light skin and good looks.
