How does Fonny get the materails to begin his sculpting?

Fonny is placed in a vocational school. The students in this school are not thought to be traditionally intelligent and are taught to use their hands. Fonny hates it and drops out, but before he does, he starts stealing the materials. Finally, to get the wood out of the shop, he and a friend break in after hours and take all the wood.
