Who is Makivik from Ice Hunt and what is their importance?

Makivik is the young Inuit boy who was part of the scientific experiments at the Grendel Ice Station, and the only one who is revived. He resembles Tyler to such a degree that both Matt and Jennifer mistake the youth for their son.
