What types of research projects are being conducted at Omega Drift Station in the novel, Ice Hunt?

The main purpose of the research was to measure the seasonal rate of growth and erosion of the ice pack, measuring the heat budget of the Arctic. There were other projects, too, such as a mining operation that samples cores of the ocean floor and a hydrolab that studied the health of the phyto- and zooplankton under the ice.
