Describe the USS Polar Sentinel from the novel, Ice Hunt?

The Polar Sentinel is a research vessel that is half the size of most submarines. It has been miniaturized using advances to engineering to allow for a smaller crew, which results in less space being needed for living quarters. All armaments have been removed to allow room for scientific equipment and personnel. The sub is also the test platform for a new type of attack submarine.
