What happens to Keetah's sister?

Keetah's sister left her family with a man who promised to marry her... he did not, leaving her alone and penniless.

"The man didn't marry her. When she found out about the mask, she objected, I suppose. He left her in Vancouver, penniless, and he disap- peared.
