Gloria's mother, Mrs. Weston, wanted to get rid of Robbie because she was afraid that robots would someday hurt her daughter. Her husband George, however, found her fears unfounded. He reminded her that Robbie is safer than anyone else because it conflicts with the first law of robots. Eventually, Gloria's mother Grace disappointed her husband and the couple decided to get rid of Robbie one day while Gloria was out watching Visivox. George had the idea of going to a robot factory so Gloria could see the robots being made and realize that they were just machines and Robbie was not a real person. However, he did not realize that Robbie was already working in the factory, and when Gloria saw him, she rushed at him and almost got run over by a tractor. Robbie saw her running towards him, saw the tractor coming towards her, and hurried to her rescue, arriving faster than anyone else. This amazing rescue shocked everyone. Grace realized that Robbie was more than just a machine and agrees to let him come back and live with them again.
