Describe the new character introduced in Chapter VIII. What kind of man is he?

The character referred to only as the Grandfather is portrayed as both down-to-earth and deeply respectful of the strong link between the physical and spiritual worlds. He is responsible for burying the unclaimed dead after they whatever is left of them is brought to the site of the paupers' cemetery in the back of an ambulance, straight from the morgue.
