Comment on language

The language of the story functions to highlight the importance and profound implications of the story’s events. These events seem almost commonplace at first, but the language with which they articulate subtly draw attention to the more tragic or dramatic elements. One of the most prominent examples of this is after Yunior and the date have sex. They experience a growing disconnect between them, and a line of narration states, “Let her comb her hair, the sound of it stretching like a sheet of fire between you” (148).
