Why is Winston attracted to Stella in the novel, How Stella Got Her Groove Back?

Winston finds in Stella the one person he can talk to, someone who can make him laugh. In Winston's own words to Stella, "I don't have to pretend to be something that I'm not with you and you make me feel really good about being who I am."
