What is the author's style in Hotel du Lac by Anita Brookner?

The story is told in the first person through the eyes of the main character, Edith Hope. She tells the story primarily from her own point of view, although the author switches to an omniscient narrator to describe a few select parts of the story for which such a narrator is necessary.
