How do the English plan on destroying Villeneuve's fleet in the novel, Hornblower During the Crisis?

The passing English fleet is sent to intercept the returning French fleet at which time, it is hoped it will be destroyed by Calder with assistance from the Channel fleet. Stragglers will be destroyed by Nelson.
