What does Murad remember in Chapter 9 doing with his father when he was a boy?

Murad remembers when he was a little boy, his father would sit down at night, cross-legged on the raffia mat, his back to the wall, and tell stories for him and for his sister Lamya. This was when they still lived downtown. He remembers only fragments of the stories.
