How does the author use foreshadowing in Honor's Splendour?

When Madelyne saves Gilard's life, her act foreshadows not only his great admiration for his heroine, but his love as well. This will prove to be a bit tricky when Duncan (Gilard's brother) and Madelyne fall in love.
