What is the author's style in Hollywood: A Novel by Charles Bukowski?

For the most part, the narrative is structured in a straightforward, linear fashion, with the action moving from narrative point to narrative point in a clear portrayal of the relationship between character, cause/effect, and plot. There are occasional, at times, lengthy diversions into the past (such as in Part 11, Chapter 41) which, when they occur, serve to illuminate and/or trigger Hank's insights into the relationship between past and present (how the truth of the present is informed by, but separate from, the truth of the past).
