W.W. Hale V is a frequent partner in crime to Kat. It is Hale who arranges for Kat's liberation from the Colgan School. Hale is handsome, self-assured and confident in a way that can only be achieved through breeding and old money. Hale is the son of W.W. Hale IV, a billionaire. Hale IV does not know that his son is a thief. Hale works to maintain a legitimate front for his parents and others. Only Marcus seems to know Hale's secrets.
Kat is accurate when she says that Hale is a bored little boy who is always looking for new toys and excitement.
Hale takes great pleasure in teasing Kat. He refuses to tell anyone his first name, which becomes a running joke between the friends since Kat is forever guessing.
Although Hale pretends to be relatively oblivious to the attention he receives from women, he clearly uses it to his advantage. Hale does not do this to Kat, however. Like Kat, Hale seems to have unresolved feelings toward his partner. Despite any underlying emotions, it is clear that Hale will always be there for Kat in her time of need.
