As the last surviving high Imperial official, what are some of the good and bad things that Thrawn might have to deal with in the novel, Heir to the Empire?

Grand Admiral Thrawn is the last remaining high official for the Empire, having escaped the New Republic. That is a good thing for Thrawn, since he has no competition or opposition from other high-ranking Imperial officials. However, it is bad for him, since he basically has a target on his back that makes him a good mark for two groups of people. Both lower ranked Imperials, like Pallaeon and New Republic officials want higher-ranking Imperials dead. It is implied, in Chapter 1 that Pallaeon has a problem with the decisions of authority figures, so he might decide to try to take Thrawn's place.
