Who is King Cynric from Heir Apparent and what is their importance?

King Cynric is Janine's biological father. When he dies, the characters learn that he has appointed Janine as his heir because he doesn't trust the rest of the family. In the end, we learn that he was right to be suspicious of them.... his death was a result of poison.
