Symbolism of Lost-Pet Posters

The lost pet posters are symbols of betrayal. These posters are found in the story “Low Men in Yellow Coats.” Bobby sees lost pet posters in his dream about his mother being attacked by Mr. Biderman. Liz was betrayed by Mr. Biderman when he invited her to go with him to a conference because it would be an opportunity for her. Mr. Biderman really wanted Liz to go so he could use her as a sexual toy. The lost pet posters advertising Ted are also signs of betrayal. Liz betrays her son’s trust when she turns Ted in to the low men even though Bobby loves Ted. Later, Liz further betrays Bobby by claiming she did not take the reward money offered for information about Ted, but Bobby knows that she did take it.
