What happens during the first dinner party Paige hosts at their house for Nicholas' colleagues?

Paige prepares for the dinner party by getting food from Mercy and painting her dinnerware. Since Paige and Nicholas do not own enough matching dinnerware for the party, Paige paints discount plates and glasses with little pictures of various animals to make them look as though they all match. When everyone begins to arrive, Nicholas becomes the perfect host and Paige disappears into the kitchen. Just as Paige is returning, she overhears two of the wives talking about the art work on the china, comparing it to children's crayon drawings or scribbles of a monkey. Paige runs from the room.
