Paige remembers a time when her father was out of town and her mother took her to the zoo instead of church as she is expected to do. Paige and her mother go through many of the exhibits including the polar bears, the elephants, and the penguins. The elephant habitat is separated from the visitors by a moat filled with water. While standing there, Paige's mother decides to play in the water. Paige's mother takes off her shoes and splashes in the water, warning Paige not to join her. Then, at the penguin exhibit, Paige becomes separated from her mother in the dark exhibit area. Paige is very scared, but when her mother magically appears and takes her hand, Paige feels safe.
