What do Paige's drawings reveal when Astrid asks Paige to draw a self portrait?

Paige draws Astrid with leaves falling all around her. In each leaf, Paige has drawn a different woman, an African woman, a Spanish woman, and other women Astrid has photographed. Then Paige draws herself and her mother. Astrid asks Paige to draw a picture of herself. Paige tries, but each attempt ends in failure until Astrid points out that she has drawn Nicholas.
