How does Paige feel in the first few moments after giving birth to Max?

Nicholas leaves Paige and Max alone so he can do his rounds at Mass General. Paige holds her baby and stares into his face, expecting to feel a rush of maternal feelings, but instead feels nothing. A nurse comes in and teaches Paige how to nurse her baby, explaining that a newborn does not automatically know how to nurse. The pain Paige experiences surprises her and brings tears to her eyes.
