Nicholas puts Max to bed with the help of the vacuum cleaner, then goes downstairs and steals a peek at Paige. Paige is sitting on the steps of the porch with drawings scattered around her. When the wind blows and stirs up the drawings, Nicholas opens the door and catches a couple. All the drawings are of Max. Nicholas turns to go back inside, but stops to tell Paige how good he thought she was with Max. Then Nicholas tells her she cannot stay on his lawn forever. Paige tells him about camping out in North Carolina with her mother and Nicholas tells her he wants to take her camping in Maine. Before Nicholas goes in, he realizes how cold it is and he decides to get Paige a jacket from inside. Paige thanks him for being cordial. Nicholas goes upstairs to sleep. He is still convinced that Paige has only come for Max and if that's true, he does not want to let her come back home. Nicholas decides to sleep on it and make a decision in the morning.
