Who is Mark from Harvest and what is their importance?

Mark is a physician and member of the Bayside transplant team. Over the course of the novel, Mark is exposed for taking money for his work..... contracting to the highest bidder. Even knowing that Vera Voss' transplant was illegal.... he took part anyway.
