Haley barely knows her father as he was arrested for drunk driving and vehicular homicide, the very accident that killed her mother. He has been in prison for the last eight years and is anticipating his release on parole. Haley is reluctant at first to share with her classmates the details of her family situation, she is self-conscious and embarrassed, but as more of them share their feelings about their own struggles, she feels it is only right that talk about her parents.
