A good deal of the exposition of this story is given in Chapter 1 when Farris gives Gwendy the box. Both the reader and Gwendy get the same information about the box and what it will do. The action begins to rise in Chapter 2 as Gwendy chooses a place to hide the box and she begins to credit the changes in her life — both good and bad — to the powers of the box. The climax comes when Frankie breaks into Gwendy’s house and finds the box in her closet. Frankie tries to attack Gwendy when she opens her closet and finds him there but Harry interrupts the attack. Frankie smashes Harry over the head with the button box and kills him.
