Gulliver is taken to see the academy, where he sees several strange things, including people eating pieces of paper, in hopes of absorbing the words that are written on the paper. He also sees people reading aloud and philosophers trying to explore human nature. Gulliver finds much of what he sees strange and unnecessary.
