What is known about Carrot's sword in the novel, Guards! Guards!?

Carrot's sword was one of the items left behind by the bandit's who killed those who had been travelling with Carrot when he was a baby. The sword is definitely not magical, as the dwarfs had it tested for this by a witch. Apart from this, nothing more is known about it.
