In Russel Baker's autobiography, Growing Up, Lucy Elizabeth is Russell's mother. At one point she finds herself a widow very early with three small children. Though she is a strong person and has wanted an education, when her father died she had to dismiss the idea of college. Later, she ends up having to rely on her brother's faily to support them. Baker wrote this book as a tribute to his mother and to also show that people can rise to extraordinary heights if they only have one person that truly believes in them, like his mother did.
