Legal scholar, Pausanias, speaks after Phaedrus in the "Symposium." He criticizes Phaedrus' speech because it doesn't distinguish between the two types of love. The first type, which is considered the lesser of the two, is that love which is equally for a woman or for a man. The second type, which is preferred, is the love that is shared between an older man and a younger, pubescent boy. According to Pausanias, these relationships are beneficial to both and help in building virtue.
