Who is Meletus from Great Dialogues and what is their importance?

Meletus is Socrates' chief accuser in "The Apology". He blames Socrates for corrupting the youth and denying the existence of any gods. He is the only other person to speak in the dialog, as Socrates directly questions him during his defense.
