Why is Thomas in attendance at Bianca's party?

Thomas was sent by Lord Raith, the most powerful member of the White Court of vampires, to be their representative at Bianca's masquerade ball. Thomas is Lord Raith's illegitimate son, and the lowest-ranking member of the White Court, so Lord Raith sent him because he knew it would be an affront to Bianca.
