Why does Harry attend Bianca's ball?

When Harry summoned the Nightmare, he was able to feel the aura of the being controlling it. He knows that if he goes to the masquerade ball, he will mingle with a lot of people, and hopefully find the Nightmare's controller by identifying that person's aura.
