Good Morning, Monster
Who is Peter Chang from the nonfiction book, Good Morning, Monster?
.
.
Peter Chang is the patient in the story titled Peter. Peter is a 35-year-old Chinese man who is referred to Gildiner because he is impotent. No physical reason for his impotence can be determined. Gildiner learns that because Peter could not be still and quiet while his parents were working all day in the restaurant they owned, he was locked in the attic of the restaurant. Peter had virtually no interaction with humans from the time he was two until he was five. Peter’s only toy was a piano that a child had behind in the restaurant. Peter did not believe that he was being abused, he argued initially that his mother only locked him up because it was what was best for him because he would not be quiet. Gildiner helped Peter work through his attachment issues and develop a more healthy relationship with his mother.
