.
.
Danny Morrison is the central figure in the story “Danny.” Danny is a Cree Indian who is referred to Gildiner for therapy because he does not grieve after his daughter and wife were killed in a car crash. At the age of five, Danny was taken from his parents and sent to a residential school. At this school, he was beaten for speaking Cree, his native language. He was also sexually abused by the priests who ran the school. When he returned home to visit his parents, his father believed that Danny had betrayed him when Danny showed him the medals he had won in 4-H. After Gildiner helped Danny understand the things that had happened in his past to make him close off his feelings, Danny admitted that he felt he had no identity. He was neither White nor Cree. He had been alienated from his family. Gildiner helps Danny understand how much he accomplished in his life. She helps him reconnect with his native heritage.
