Why does Pip think that the Singh house haunted?

People in town all know where the Singhs live, and because their son is suspected of killing Andie Bell, their house is the focus of a lot of negative attention. Children dare each other to run up and touch the front gate; adults speed past. Someone once spray-painted "Scum Family" on the house, and once the windows were shattered with rocks (3).
