Through Pippa's story, and her close friendships with Cara, Naomi, Lauren, and Ravi, the author explores the importance of forming and sustaining close bonds. Though Pippa values her alone time, and is markedly dedicated to her school work, she does have several close friends. Her relationship with the Ward sisters is of particular importance to her. Having grown up with Cara and Naomi, Pip is fiercely protective of the girls. She and Cara are also close friends with Lauren, and spend significant time with her, comforting her when she is down. Ravi, of course, is Pippa's newest friend, a kinship born out of Pippa's determination to prove his brother Sal's innocence.
