Since the narrator acts as their own character, the language of the novel is personal and laid back. All of Casiopea’s chapters start with deep descriptions of the city she is visiting, as well as their history, culture, as well as issues such as racism and sexism. This flowery language also applies to Casiopea and Martín’s inner thoughts where the narrator builds on philosophical questions by having these characters compare their understanding of certain problems with what they are seeing in the world. The narrator also mentions a few different languages, and there are quite a few Spanish words that are left for the audience to deduce the meaning of. This is because these words do not have direct translations into English. However, all of these words are given context clues so the reader is always aware of what is being said.
