J.E.B. Stuart was the commander of Lee's cavalry troops. Before the war, he traveled with Lee to Harper's Ferry and delivered the message to John Brown which gave him the opportunity to surrender.

During the war, Stuart's troops were the eyes and ears of Lee's army. He provided Lee with information he needed to defeat his northern opponents. Stuart, however, is seen as reckless and showy by the other officers because of his dress and exaggerated manner.

When Jackson was wounded at Chancellorsville, he sent for Stuart to take over the battle. Stuart found commanding infantry to be a frustrating task because of their inability to turn and maneuver quickly. In the end, however, he is victorious.
