Deloria makes mention of the Greeks' early idea of the immortality of the soul sometimes linked to the idea of reincarnation, and sometimes taken as a "matter of cosmic economy". He also speaks about the Christian belief of ressurrection of the body. The author notes, that "over the course of Western history these two interpretations of the nature of the afterlife have ebbed and flowed with the Greek idea of eternal life generally achieving more popularity."
