One major theme in Gimpel the Fool is honor and integrity as demonstrated throughout the story through the character of Gimpel. Gimpel is honorable, even when he is dishonored by his wife...... over and over again. He takes care of his wife and their ten children.... none of whom are "his" children. When given the opportunity to take revenge against the villagers, Gimpel passes.... and his integrity shines through.
