What ideas do you think the writer, Daniel Clowes, is hoping you to take from the book?

In my opinion, Clowes is trying to illustrate the fact that things are not always what they seem, and that there is a huge difference between appearances and reality. In the same vein, Clowes also seems to be addressing inauthenticity, pretending your something you're not simply because you've been exposed to a certain mindset..... exposed to a popular culture that is meant to define and shape you.
