Ghost Gifts is written in third person from several limited perspectives. While each perspective is not exclusive to the others, each is limited so that the author can withhold pieces of information to build suspense. The experiences and death of Missy Flannigan is one of the most important examples of this suspense, though the author also builds significant suspense around Levi's fate near the end of the novel. The opening chapter of the novel is presented from Aubrey's perspective. The reader learns that Aubrey had a psychic ability that she did not fully control and Charley was helping Aubrey cope. Additional details about Aubrey's life are presented in increments, meaning the reader does not have a full picture of Aubrey's abilities and experiences until much later in the novel. The limited perspective also means that the reader learns things as Aubrey learns them.
