How does Ghost convince Coach Brody not to tell his mother about the shoplifted shoes?

Ghost tells Coach Brody that his mother did not have any money for shoes, and that he could not ask her for them. Coach Brody asks why Ghost did not call him, and Ghost says that Coach Brody is not his father. Ghost says that he has to live with the stigma of not having a father, of living in the projects, and Coach Brody tells Ghost that he comes from the same neighborhood.
