What are the motifs in Geography Club by Brent Hartinger?

Sexuality is another primary motif in the novel. Not only is each of the teens dealing with the normal rites of passage that teens experience, but the characters in this novel have to hide who they truly are. They feel the need to hide their sexuality from their fellow students because of the fear of what will happen to them if people know the truth.
