Who is Christopher in Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry?

Christopher is Kira's father. Once chosen as the next in line to become a guardian in the village, Christopher is left behind after a supposed hunting accident and rescued by a society of handicapped people. He has been blinded, but they nurse him back to health, and he reappears at the end of the story.
